State, County and Forest Service law enforcement personnel patrol the Sand Lake Recreation Area on a regular basis. Some of the most common infractions on the open sand are:

- Minors riding without supervision
- Under age 18 without helmet
- No OHV decal on truck, car, motorhome
- No fire extinguisher on truck, car, motorhome
- Mufflers above the 97 decibel range for the Sand Lake Recreation Area

Beginning Jan. 1, 2008.
Chin straps on helmets—must be fastened on all riders under age 18.
All youth under 16 must always be supervised by an adult over age 18.
Supervision defined as a person who:

1.  is 18 years of age,
2.  holds a valid Drivers License,
3.  accompanies the child and is able to provide immediate assistance and direction.

Starting January 1, 2010
All youth under age 16 must have an ATV Safety Education Card and be supervised by an adult over age 18 who also must have an ATV Safety Education Card.
All adults under age 31 must have an ATV Safety Education Card.

Quad riders under 31 (and quad riders under 16 and their adult supervisor) are required to carry an ATV Safety Education Card. Eventually, anyone operating an ATV on Oregon's public land will be required to have an ATV Safety Education Card. While Oregon will phase in the new ATV safety laws over the next few years, we believe they are important enough to benefit you now, before you rent from us. We would like to encourage you and all your riders earn this card and bring it with you when you show up to rent. You can take the free ATV Safety Education Course online to get your ATV Safety Education Card.
